4 Ways to Save on Insurance

When you think of the word insurance, what words come to mind? Reassurance? Peace of mind? Protection? Insurance is a lot like a safety net. You hope you don’t have to use it, but if something unexpectedly happens, you know it’s there to catch you. Now, let’s be honest—nobody really likes to think about it—especially when it comes to the cost. But, it’s still an important necessity you can’t afford to skip.

Luckily, a number of options exist to help maximize your savings, while ensuring you get the best coverage for your situation. Check out these 4 ways to help you save on insurance.

    1. Review Your Existing Coverage

It’s always a good idea to make a habit of reviewing your coverage on a consistent basis. Whether it’s annually, or every few years, it’s beneficial to thoroughly read through your policies so you know exactly what is covered. You may find that you have duplicate coverage, gaps, or realize you no longer need an existing policy.

    2. Look For Discounts

Insurance companies offer plenty of discounts to decrease your premium. Take advantage of your good driving record, defensive driving course completion, or by electronically automating your payments. When you’re shopping around, ask upfront for discounts and take advantage of the ones you qualify for. Every little bit adds up.

    3. Shop Around

The beauty of the internet is that you can shop around and get quotes for auto, home, and life insurance without ever having to leave your home. A good time to start your research is approximately 60 days before your policies are up for renewal. It certainly doesn’t hurt to do a side-by-side comparison of coverage when it could potentially save you up to hundreds of dollars a year.

    4. Bundle Up

As I’ve mentioned before in a previous blog about bundling insurance, would it make sense to visit 10 different grocery stores to pick up 10 items on your shopping list? I’m going to say no. Not only is bundling your insurance policies convenient for payment and documentation management, it could also lead to big savings. Most people think about home and auto when bundling, but you may also be able to take advantage of a deeper discount when you bundle other policies, such as umbrella liability.

At the end of the day, you shouldn’t compromise the coverage you need just to save a few dollars. But, you can be savvy when it comes to saving on the safety net we know as insurance. It’s not pleasant to think about the unexpected, but it sure is nice to know there’s a net waiting to catch us if it happens.
